Every work passes through several bodies before it arrives at its final one. It begins as a digital model, printed in resin on an SLA machine, exact and weightless. From that print I take a silicone mould, and from the mould a wax, the form now soft enough to be worked by hand. The wax is invested in ceramic shell and burned out, leaving a void where the sculpture used to be, and into that absence the molten bronze is poured. What comes out of the shell is raw and unrecognisable. The last stage is metalwork: chasing, welding, grinding and polishing the surface back to the model it began as, several centuries of craft applied to an object born on a screen.
